World Diabetes Day
Today, November 14, 2007, marks the first World Diabetes Day, a campaign launched by the United Nations to officially recognize diabetes as a major threat to the health of people globally. The rising numbers of children afflicted with Type 1 Diabetes is of special concern, as it grows 3% annually for schoolchildren and adolescents, and a startling 5% for children of pre-school age.
Due to the profound effects that Type 1 Diabetes has on the lives of children, World Diabetes Day focuses on the importance of educating the families of diabetic children, as well as informing schools and other organizations that care for children.
